‘President Curtis’: Dan Harmon Expanding The ‘Rick & Morty’ Universe With New Spinoff Starring Keith David

In today’s Hollywood, the moment a TV show or film becomes popular, studios clamor for more, more, more. That usually means a quick sequel or spinoff. However, with the astronomical success of Adult Swims’ “Rick and Morty,” there really hasn’t been anything like that. Fans have just been given seasons and seasons of quality TV content. But it appears now, the inevitable is happening— “Rick and Morty” is getting a spinoff.

As revealed in today’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, Adult Swim has a new “Rick and Morty” spinoff series, “President Curtis.” As the title implies, the new series follows President Curtis, a character voiced by Keith David, as he gets involved in all sorts of sci-fi shenanigans. And fans will be happy to know that Dan Harmon is a co-creator of the new series alongside James Siciliano. 

“President Curtis has always been a blast to play,” said David. “Getting to explore his world more deeply in this new series is a dream. I can’t wait for fans to see what kind of chaos he stirs up when Rick isn’t around to steal the spotlight.”

Harmon and Siciliano added, “President Curtis has always been one of our favorite characters to write — he’s the only person in the multiverse who can go toe-to-toe with Rick and still hold office. Now we finally get to go on sci-fi missions from Curtis’ point of view. And with Keith David leading the charge, it’s going to be a wild ride.”

Joining David in the cast are Stephanie Beatriz (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”) and Jim Rash (“Community”).

Here’s an official synopsis for the series:

“President Curtis” follows the Commander-in-Chief and his eccentric staff as they tackle the kind of crises that Rick Sanchez could never be bothered with – from interdimensional diplomacy to paranormal investigations and unexplained phenomena.

It has yet to be revealed when we might see “President Curtis” debut on Adult Swim. However, you better believe they will be promoting the hell out of it, as the network expands the world of “Rick and Morty.”
