After the huge critical and commercial success of James Gunn’s “Superman,” fans are hungry for what’s next. While we still are months away from the release of the next DCU film, “Supergirl,” fans will next be able to jump into the DCU with Season 2 of “Peacemaker.”

Debuting at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, we have our first look at a trailer for “Peacemaker” Season 2. But, as seen in the footage, there is a bit more continuity baggage with “Peacemaker” that is clearly being reckoned with. You see, Season 1 of “Peacemaker” existed in the DCEU, the previous version of the connected film universe that was started with Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel.” In fact, at the end of Season 1, we get teases of some of the biggest superheroes in that universe. So, how will Gunn and Co. make Season 2 of the series exist in the new DCU without throwing out what happened last time? It appears we’re going to be dealing with a dimensional rift being exploited.
That’s right, John Cena is going to be jumping between dimensions trying to figure out his place in life. All the while, he’s being hunted by Rick Flag, Sr. (played by Frank Grillo). Peacemaker is being hunted because he killed Flag’s son (played by Joel Kinnaman) way back in “The Suicide Squad.” And with things not looking all that rosy in his current universe, Cena’s Peacemaker decides to take a trip to a parallel universe.
John Cena is joined by Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick in the cast of Season 2. And judging by the footage shown, it would appear that Stroma is getting a much more prominent role in the series in Season 2.
“Peacemaker” Season 2 is set to debut on HBO Max on August 21. You can watch the trailer below:
