Featuring a great cast including Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker and Michael Stuhlbarg, the film has a simple but terrific premise: Aliens have arrived, and the government hires a linguist to help them communicate. For hard sci-fi enthusiasts, this looks like the kind of movie they don’t get all that often. Here’s the official synopsis:

ARRIVAL is a provocative science fiction thriller from acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve (SICARIO, PRISONERS). When mysterious spacecraft touch down across the globe, an elite team — lead by expert linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) — are brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers — and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.

“Arrival” will also screen at the Toronto International Film Festival, and opens on November 11th.
