While all the buzz today at the Venice Film Festival is surrounding “La La Land” (read our review), tomorrow the attention will shift to Denis Villeneuve’s “Arrival,” which will be making its World Premiere on the Lido. And today, the first two clips from the highly anticipated sci-fi film has arrived.
Featuring a great cast including Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker and Michael Stuhlbarg, the film has a simple but terrific premise: Aliens have arrived, and the government hires a linguist to help them communicate. For hard sci-fi enthusiasts, this looks like the kind of movie they don’t get all that often. Here’s the official synopsis:
ARRIVAL is a provocative science fiction thriller from acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve (SICARIO, PRISONERS). When mysterious spacecraft touch down across the globe, an elite team — lead by expert linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) — are brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers — and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.
“Arrival” will also screen at the Toronto International Film Festival, and opens on November 11th.
