Ryan Murphy is back, following up his acclaimed “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” with another, less known tale of ’90s celebrity murder. So, here comes “The Assassination Of Gianna Versace: American Crime Story,” where fashion, celebrity and murder make for another deadly mix.
While the cast boasts heavyweights Penelope Cruz and Edgar Ramirez, reviews (including ours) are paying special attention to Darren Criss‘ performance as serial killer Andrew Cunanan. Unfortunately, despite the high gloss of the production, the show itself misses the mark with a flashback structure that undercuts the drama, when a more straightforward narrative would’ve been far more effective. Nonetheless, if the cold weather is keeping you in, perhaps a disposable, murder drama set in sunny Florida is perhaps just what the doctor ordered. Sometimes, diverting entertainment is all you need.
