'Avatar 2' Actor David Thewlis Has "No Idea" What The Film Will Look Like But Knows He's "A Blue Thing"

British actor David Thewlis is no stranger to big-budget, blockbuster film sets. He’s previously starred in franchises such as “Wonder Woman” and “Harry Potter.” But apparently, none of that experience means anything when you walk onto the set of an “Avatar” sequel.

Speaking to GamesRadar, Thewlis did his best to explain his role in the upcoming “Avatar 2.” Unfortunately, he’s not able to say much, not because of any secrecy but because he’s just not sure what it’s going to end up looking like, thanks to the whole experience of using the cutting-edge technology that James Cameron has developed for the sequels.

“I’ve got no idea what my scenes will be like because there are about 16 guys in the room with video cameras but they’re just shooting reference shots for Jim [Cameron] to look at later,” the actor explained. “What those guys are shooting will never be on the screen, what’s being shot is obviously on these sensors. There are about 200 around the room, doing their thing.”

Though he doesn’t really know what his scenes will look like, Thewlis does know one thing about his character. The actor is able to confirm that he’s a Na’vi, or what he calls “a blue thing.” Regardless, the actor is excited to see the finished product, specifically what his character will look like.

“I’m fascinated to see how I’m going to look, because they sort of make them look a bit like oneself. It’s fantastic!” he added.

As of now, filming has still not restarted for the “Avatar” sequels, as Cameron only recently returned to New Zealand and is going to quarantine himself before joining the set, according to a recent Instagram post from producer Jon Landau. But even still, we assume that “Avatar 2” will arrive in theaters on its scheduled release date of December 17, 2021.
