'Beastie Boys' Story Trailer: Spike Jonze Helps The Beasties Take A Trip Down Memory Lane

In the world of hip-hop, the Beastie Boys are nothing short of legendary. The boys became famous goofball white rappers in the 1980s and ended up becoming the very thing they set out to satirize. After a long break, and a reset, they came back six years later and made Paul’s Boutique, one of the most innovative and cutting-edge hip-hop albums ever made, even to this day. This new musical trajectory, playing their own instruments, making their own samples, working with great artistic collaborators would mark their career to the very end in 2012 when founding member Adam Yauch passed away from cancer. Their story, the journey from being douchebags who lucked into a million-dollar career to musicians who earned their title of respected artists is the narrative of “Beastie Boys Story” a new documentary for AppleTV+ directed by longtime friend and music video collaborator Spike Jonze, who was a Beasties ally long before he became a famous feature-filmmaker.

The film is set around the Beastie Boys Book tour, which took place last year, where surviving members Mike Diamond and Adam Horovitz walked audiences through their book explaining their long and winding journey to fame, fortune, pain, friendship and more. Spike Jonze shot the Beasties live telling their own story and then intercut it with old music videos, archival footage and more.
