Oscar Isaac Says ‘Dune’ Will Do Some Addition Filming In August Just A Few Months Before Its December Release

As the second half of 2020 begins to solidify, and film fans are able to fully plan which blockbusters will be arriving later this year, it’s clear that “Dune” is still perhaps the most-anticipated release on the calendar. And even though Denis Villeneuve’s new film is still scheduled to arrive in December, it appears that work is far from done on the sci-fi epic.

Speaking to Deadline, actor Oscar Isaac, who plays Duke Leto Atreides in the film, revealed that “Dune” will go back into production for some additional shooting later this summer. But fans concerned that the film will now be delayed or that there is something wrong with Villeneuve’s film that is prompting some last-minute shooting, you shouldn’t be concerned. As the actor explains, this type of filming is becoming pretty normal on big-budget films.

“We’re going to do some additional shooting in mid-August… they’re saying in Budapest in Hungary,” said Isaac. “I saw some things cut together and it just looks amazing. Denis [Villeneuve] is a real artist and it will be exciting to see it come together. It’s kind of wild that we’re doing some additional shooting a few months before it’s supposed to come out, but that happened with ‘Star Wars’ as well.”

Obviously, Isaac using “Star Wars” as an example is meant to provide comfort to people concerned that “Dune” is somehow in trouble. But let’s be honest, bringing up ‘Rise of Skywalker’ as an example of a feature that was helped by the last-minute filmng is a bit of a stretch. Let’s just hope that “Dune” is a much better film than the most recent “Star Wars.”

Thankfully, Villeneuve is behind the camera and though this might seem like a bit of distressing news, the filmmaker has yet to fully let us down. Even though David Lynch tried to faithfully bring Frank Herbert’s sci-fi novel to life on the big screen and didn’t exactly wow audiences, there’s still plenty of reasons to be optimistic that maybe Villeneuve has it all figured out.

“Dune” is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18.
