J.J. Abrams Reveals A 'Rise Of Skywalker' Script Was For Sale On eBay But Was Recovered Before It Sold

The security that is used to protect the secrets in Disney films such as the Marvel Studios or Lucasfilm releases is legendary. Before each of these movies hits theaters, we hear about how new and more invasive security is used to make sure that nothing leaks out prior to the film’s release. However, in the case of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” there was almost a catastrophic breach of security.

Speaking to Good Morning America, director J.J. Abrams recalls a story that shows that even with the intense measures that actors and crew are subjected to, making sure no specifics about the plot are revealed, there are still honest mistakes. Thankfully, with ‘Rise of Skywalker,’ Disney and Lucasfilm were able to avoid what could have been one of the biggest leaks in “Star Wars” history.

“The security is insane,” said Abrams. “They were really nervous about anything getting out. The had only a handful of scripts and they’re printed on crazy, uncopyable paper.”

He added, “One of our actors — I’m not going to say which one, I want to, but I won’t — left it under their bed, and it was found by someone who was cleaning their place. It was given to someone else, who went to sell it on eBay. Someone at the company said, ‘You know, there’s a script that looks like a legit script, that’s for sale on eBay.’ And they got it back before it sold.”

With the way that information is spread online, especially when you’re talking about a pop culture event, such as the release of a new “Star Wars” film, you can only imagine how quickly spoilers would have circulated about ‘Rise of Skywalker.’ What’s even more impressive is that the script made its way to eBay and no one noticed, as this is the first news anyone has seen regarding the listing.

Sadly, the folks involved are likely going to be subjected to questions from everyone about who almost leaked the script. Clearly, it’s Chewbacca. Dude’s a total mess.

“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” arrives in theaters on December 20.

Update: Welp, you have your answer now, nice work, John Boyega!
