District Attorney Rejects Five Cases Of Sexual Assault Against Filmmaker James Toback

Lately, when we talk about the sexual misconduct and assault scandals that have been rocking Hollywood, the focus has been on Harvey Weinstein, and, most recently, Woody Allen. However, lest we forget that director James Toback has been the center of claims from hundreds of women who have made allegations. Now, it looks like there have been some developments in the Toback legal cases, but it might not be what you expect.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed, through a District Attorney spokesperson, that five cases brought against the disgraced director have been thrown out and will not be moving forward at this time. Allegations against Toback have covered the spectrum of sexual misconduct, and there’s no way of knowing which exact cases these are.

According to the report, one of the cases isn’t moving forward because the victim failed to appear at an interview. However, that case could still move forward, if the victim chooses in the future. The rest of the cases aren’t being prosecuted due to the statute of limitations.

James Toback is an Academy Award-nominated filmmaker. He received a Best Original Screenplay nomination for his work on “Bugsy.” He has also directed numerous films including “Two Girls and a Guy,” “Black and White,” and most recently, in 2017, “The Private Life of a Modern Woman.” However, back in October, it was reported that upwards of 40 women have accused the filmmaker of misconduct, with more coming since then. He, of course, denies all allegations.

This doesn’t mean that Toback is completely out of the woods. It’s currently unknown exactly how many cases have been submitted against Toback by Beverly Hills and Los Angeles police. As to be expected, this story is ever evolving.
