Joaquin Phoenix Reteams With M. Night Shyamalan For New Film

Joaquin Phoenix M. Night ShyamalanWhile Joaquin Phoenix is perhaps best known for his bromances with James Gray and Paul Thomas Anderson, you might have forgotten there’s another director he’s pretty chummy with: M. Night Shyamalan. The duo have made two films together, "Signs" (which is legitimately good, in my opinion) and "The Village" (which is… not), and the pair are set to to work together again for the first time in over a decade.

Variety reports the Phoenix will star in a new film to be directed by Shyamalan, and plot details are of course under wraps. But low budget outlet Blumhouse Productions is behind this project, as they are with Shyamalan’s upcoming found footage thing "The Visit," so presumably it will be a small scale affair. But then again, Blumhouse was also one of the folks behind "Whiplash," so who knows…

Either way, we’re intrigued, if only because Phoenix tends to be selective about the movies he does. And certainly, a lot has changed in both his and Shyamalan’s careers in the eleven years since they’ve worked together, so it’ll be interesting to see what they cook up.
