Get ready for the year of the girl boss. We’re rounding out the final quarter of 2019 with the highly anticipated female-led, written and directed vehicle “Hustlers.” And now, looks like we are riding into 2020 with that same energy. A new trailer for “Like a Boss” just dropped, showcasing three immensely talented actresses — Salma Hayek, Tiffany Haddish, and Rose Byrne.
Haddish and Byrne play two best friends and business partners torn apart by corporate big-wig Hayek. The film has the potential to traipse into the blandly unfunny trope of pitting female friends against each other in a catty competition. Fingers crossed that director Miguel Arteta takes the opposite approach and Haddish, Byrne, and Hayek emerge playing strong female characters.
In a year that is giving us a juicy new Kristen Stewart in the upcoming “Underwater,” (dropping the same day as “Like a Boss”) and “Wonder Woman 1984,” “Like A Boss” will likely have a lot to live up to, in terms of female-fronted films coming out in 2020. Let’s hope the leading ladies of “Like A Boss” get the year started on a strong note.

“Two hard-charging best friends (Tiffany Haddish, Rose Byrne) build a juggernaut company and find their relationship tested when they are made a big buyout offer. Suddenly all the differences that made them the perfect odd-couple partners put them at war, threatening their business and personal relationships. Salma Hayek plays the exec who makes the buyout offer and becomes the corporate puppet master pulling the strings in creating acrimony among the partners.”
Jennifer Coolidge, Ari Graynor, Billy Porter and Karan Soni join the trio in this film. “Like a Boss” will be released in the US on January 10. Take a look at the new trailer:
