Patrick Stewart Says He'll Be In The Next 'The Wolverine' & Ian McKellen Returning For 'X-Men: Apocalypse'

X-Men: Days Of Future PastJust a few weeks ago, Patrick Stewart suggested that neither he or Ian McKellen would return for "X-Men: Apocalypse." But it appears the actor spoke a bit too soon, as the young blood in ‘Apocalypse’ will welcome a familiar, older face back into the lineup.

Chatting with The Oregonian, Stewart dropped a couple little morsels not just about the followup to "X-Men: Days Of Future Past," but also about sequel to "The Wolverine," in which it appears Professor Xavier has a significant role.

"Ian McKellen, is certainly going to be in [‘X-Men: Apocalypse’]. And what I’m very excited about is that we have been talking about a ‘Wolverine’ movie, which would team Hugh Jackman and myself together," Stewart said. "Wolverine and Professor Xavier. That would be a very different sort of ‘X-Men’ from the four movies that I’ve already done."

Of course, "different" is a relative term in the world of comic book movies. Every time a filmmaker says they’re going to shake up the formula, we pretty much still get the same kind of movie. That said, Professor Xavier has always been a key figure in Wolverine’s life, and helped him unlock, understand, and accept who he is. We’d wager that if Stewart already knows details about ‘Apocalypse’ and ‘Wolverine 2,’ perhaps they’re tied together, because that’s how comic book franchises roll these days.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" drops on May 27, 2016, and "The Wolverine: Subtitle To Be Determined" arrives March 3, 2017.
