Watch: Mike Mills Directs New Saoirse Ronan In New Talking Heads Music Video For ‘Psycho Killer’

It’s better late than never. For its 50th anniversary, Talking Heads have finally released an official music video for their iconic tune “Psycho Killer” that stars Irish actress Saoirse Ronan, helmed by director Mike Mills (“20th Century Women“).

We say late because the song was originally from 1977, just around when the term New Wave was being used to describe younger artsy bands like the one headed up by lead vocalist David Byrne, alongside other groups like Velvet Underground, The New York Dolls, Ramones, Devo, Blondie, and Elvis Costello that were also blending among the rising punk scene.

Could we see more bands like Talking Heads making retroactive music videos for their classic singles that never got that treatment during the MTV era, with established actors and filmmakers? Quite possible, and the more videos with awesome Talking Heads tunes, the better.

Bryne is a filmmaker in his own right, directing a good amount of the Talking Heads music videos alongside feature ventures like “True Stories,” “Îlé Aiyé,” and the concert film “Between The Teeth.”

Mills’ previous work should be super familiar to most with fantastic feature efforts such as “C’mon C’mon,” “20th Century Women,” “Beginners,” and “Thumbsucker.”

Meanwhile, Ronan, who stars in the vid, is assumed to have Jonatan Etzler‘s dark comedic thriller Bad Apples releasing next and is gearing up to shoot Deep Cuts” opposite co-star Austin Butler in director Sean Durkin‘s follow-up to “The Iron Claw,” once he wraps on his FX series “Seven Sisters.” Last year, she was seen in Steve McQueen‘s harrowing WWII drama “Blitz” and Nora Fingscheidt‘s “Outrun.”
