Reeve Carney To Star As Jeff Buckley In New Biopic Directed by Orian Williams

By all accounts, musician Jeff Buckley was on the verge of breaking out in a big way when he died tragically in 1997, as he was working on the songs that would make up his sophomore album. Unfortunately, the young singer-songwriter had only one album under his belt before then, but his legacy has lived on over the past couple of decades. And now, his life is heading to the big screen in a new biopic from director Orian Williams.

According to Culmination Productions, the studio has signed Reeve Carney to star as Jeff Buckley in a new feature film, “Everybody Here Wants You, directed by Williams. The film will tell the life story of Buckley as he began his rise in the music world up to his death in 1997 after a tragic accident. And for fans of the musician, you shouldn’t be concerned about the making of this film, as the production has secured the approval of Buckley’s estate, as well as his mother.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to step into the director’s seat to tell Jeff’s story,” said Williams. “He is one of the most remarkable musicians of our time and I’m grateful to Mary, Alison and Culmination for supporting and collaborating with me on this project. Dionne Jones’s beautiful script brings together all the elements of Jeff’s life into one intimate and visual story. I’m also looking forward to working with the immense musical and dramatic talent that is Reeve Carney.”

Buckley’s mother, Mary Guibert, added, “This will be the only official dramatization of Jeff’s story which I can promise his fans will be true to him and to his legacy. Thankfully, my determination to assemble all the right participants, no matter how long it took, is about to culminate in the best way possible.”

As mentioned, the film is directed by Orian Williams. The biopic marks his directorial debut. Previously, Williams has worked decades as a producer, working on features such as “Shadow of the Vampire,” “Control,” and “England is Mine.”

Carney is an actor that has been in a number of high-profile projects. People probably best know him for his work in the TV series, “Penny Dreadful,” as well as the underrated thriller, “Gemini.” He’s next set to star in the upcoming Ridley Scott film, “Gucci,” which is expected to begin production shortly.

The Jeff Buckley film is hoping to find distribution soon as part of the European Film Market. And if all goes to plan, the feature will begin production sometime in the fall. If that’s the case, we can expect “Everybody Here Wants You” to possibly debut sometime in 2022, a full 25 years after the musician’s tragic death.
