Rob Lowe Says His "Little Stupid Christmas Elephant Movie" Was More Popular Than 'The Irishman' On Netflix

Recently, Netflix published its lists of “Most Popular” content for 2019. Unfortunately, even with that list, the exact viewership of each project was not released, as the streaming company keeps those sorts of details close to the vest. Really, the only time we get any idea whether something is a hit or not is when Netflix releases its own stats, which only ever happens with films and TV shows that greatly exceed expectations. So, with that being said, we have no proof to contradict a recent comment from Rob Lowe where he stated that his recent Netflix holiday film was a bigger success than “The Irishman.”

Speaking at a TCA panel (via The Wrap), Lowe was discussing his recent successful film that was released by Netflix. And to help illustrate how much of a success this film was, he compared it to Martin Scorsese’s crime drama that has been acclaimed by critics and already has been collecting awards trophies.

“I just did a movie for Netflix that was the number one movie that they had,” Lowe said. “A little stupid Christmas elephant movie and it beat — take that Martin Scorsese.”

The “little stupid Christmas elephant movie” that Lowe is referring to is the recent Netflix Original “Holiday in the Wild.” While I can’t speak for the entirety of the film, the trailer does make it seem like “stupid” might be an apt description. As harsh as that may seem, there are some that would describe Scorsese’s latest with similar verbiage. So really, who’s to say whether or not “Holiday in the Wild” is objectively better or worse than “The Irishman?”

If art is inherently subjective, with everyone’s opinions differing, then really the only measure of success we can have is box office or viewership numbers. And considering Netflix doesn’t release those numbers, we just have to believe Lowe. Therefore, logically, “Holiday in the Wild” is a massive hit that is doing better than “The Irishman” in terms of viewership. Congrats to all involved!

You can watch the trailers for both “The Irishman” and “Holiday in the Wild” below, to better help you decide which is the better film. Not for nothing, but Rob Lowe’s film does have 100% more baby elephants than Scorsese’s film and is less than half of the length. Do with that info what you will.

Both films are available to stream right now on Netflix.

(And for those that honestly believe I’m saying “The Irishman” and “Holiday in the Wild” are comparable— just take a deep breath and relax.)
