Tim Allen Compares 'Toy Story 4' To 'Infinity War' & Emotionally "Couldn't Even Get Through The Last Scene"

If you are a fan of animated films, particularly those of Pixar, then you probably were like many people while watching “Toy Story 3” — a blubbering mess. The silly franchise about walking, talking toys has become such a legendary, and beloved, animated franchise that fans feel so connected with Woody and Buzz Lightyear, among others. And the ending of “Toy Story 3,” which we won’t cover for fear of turning into a mess, was an emotional high point for the series. Well, in a new interview, not only does Tim Allen think “Toy Story 4” will be even more emotional, but he compares it to an unlikely Disney film.

In an interview on “The Talk,” Allen is asked about returning to the ‘Toy Story’ franchise, and he said:

“I gotta resist getting emotional because I don’t wanna give it away but this is an incredibly great story. If you’re at all a superhero fan, ‘Infinity War,’ I’m a big superhero fan, that didn’t seem like it was going to work. It was a lot of vignettes that all made sense. This ‘Toy Story 4’ . We’ve only been through it once, there will be several more incantations, but it is so emotional, it’s so funny, it’s so big the idea that they’ve come up with. I’m startled. [‘Toy Story 3’] I thought was amazing. This one, I couldn’t even get through the last scene, OK?”

Clearly, comparing “Toy Story 4” to “Avengers: Infinity War” means Buzz, Woody, and the rest of the gang will have to join forces to combat a major evil force that threatens all life in the universe, right? All kidding aside, it’s obvious that the scope of “Toy Story 4” will be unlike anything else in the franchise. ‘Infinity War’ proved that you can take beloved characters, keep them separated, and still tell an impactful story. The same can be said about the first 6 seasons of “Game of Thrones.” So, perhaps that’s what fans can expect with the next ‘Toy Story.’

However, fans are probably not ready for the ending, if Allen is to be believed. How can the folks at Pixar create something even more emotional than the ending of “Toy Story 3?” Will moviegoers have to bring their own tissues to the theater? Will it be difficult to hear the end of the film over the sounds of a hundred people sobbing uncontrollably?

Thankfully, fans have some time to prepare themselves, as “Toy Story 4” isn’t expected to hit theaters until June 21, 2019.
