Look, I’m team Clint Barton (aka Hawkeye). He’s loyal to his Avengers team and honorable—comes out of retirement for ‘Civil War‘ on the right team reminding everyone that he has a “debt to pay” to Wanda for Quicksilver saving his life in “Avengers” Age of Ultron,” he can keep secrets (he’s a family man), and has one superpower everyone seems to forget: a magic power that creates an unending supply of arrows for his quiver. Clint would make a good leader and the character of Hawkeye even lead the West Coast Avengers in the comics, so who knows, maybe they could expand the team on two coasts one day. Plus he’s one of the few mortals on the Avengers team and it gives him a human perspective that many of these gods don’t possess. Hawkeye is the audiences human anchor into the soul of the Avengers… uhh, or something like that.

But Hawkeye continues to get no love. Marvel Studios just released 780 character posters for their upcoming “Avengers: Infinity War” movie and Hawkeye, as usual—already abandoned on previous posters—is again nowhere to be seen.
Is he actually in the film? Yes. “Some [team members] certain decisions and others made other decisions that led to different paths in them dealing with oversight in this movie in a different way. So Hawkeye’s on his own journey in this movie,” ‘Infinity Wars’ co-director Joe Russo said recently. So, it sounds like maybe Hawkeye is back at home and or not really involved in the action of the film.

One should note, while Hawkeye is getting all the attention for being AWOL on the posters, both Ant-Man and the Wasp have been missing too. First off, apparently the Wasp won’t join the team until ‘Avengers 4,’ and apparently “Ant-Man & The Wasp“—the only chronological Marvel film scheduled between the two-part ‘Avengers’ movies are deeply connected to part two. So it’s unclear how much Ant-Man or Hawkeye factor into ‘Infinity War,’ but it might be safe to say, probably not much.
Will they kill of Barton as many presume? It’s too easy a move, frankly and it would be nice to preserve some humanity, frankly. But Jeremy Renner has obviously already suggested, like Chris Evans, that he’s likely not returning for more Marvel films after this two-parter. I still hold out hope. Character posters below (including two new photos from Total Film). The biggest epic movie in the history of all time opens April 27.
