In a move that almost no one was asking for, Disney has decided to give Josh Gad and Luke Evans a chance to revisit their “Beauty and the Beast” characters, LeFou and Gaston, respectively, for a new series on Disney+.
According to THR, Disney has brought on Gad and Evans to potentially star in a new six-episode limited musical series that will serve as a prequel to the billion-dollar-grossing live-action remake of “Beauty and the Beast.” The series comes from co-creators and co-showrunners, Josh Gad, Eddy Kitsis, and Adam Horowitz and will explore the lives of Gaston and LeFou in the time before the events of ‘Beast.’

The report claims that the idea came from the minds of Gad, Kitsis, and Horowitz when the trio was working on the now-scrapped ‘Muppets’ reboot that Disney was exploring for its streaming service. Now, the men will all write and showrun the new series, which reportedly might also feature guest stars such as Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, as Belle and the Beast, respectively.
Gad, of course, is a well-known actor that appeared in the live-action remake, as well as films such as “Frozen,” “Pixels,” and “Murder on the Orient Express.” Kitsis and Horowitz are probably best known for their work as the showrunners for the ABC series, “Once Upon a Time,” which explored various fairy tale reimaginings. In addition, the duo is currently showrunners on the new “Amazing Stories” relaunch that just began its run on Apple TV+.
There’s no word on when Disney fans might actually see this “Beauty and the Beast” prequel series, but we can probably expect that the studio will try to get this one on its feet sooner rather than later.
