The reverberations from the devastating fires in Los Angeles County continue. This afternoon The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences sent a text to its approximately 10,000 members regarding Oscar nomination voting. Members were able to log in and vote beginning at 9 AM PT, but there had been no official notification. The Academy’s blast updated members that voting, originally scheduled to end at 5 PM on Sunday, January 12, has been extended to Tuesday, January 14.

Additionally, The Academy will move the announcement of the 2025 nominees to Sunday, January 19. Nominations were supposed to be revealed on Friday, January 17. To our knowledge, the nominees have not been announced on a weekend in at least four decades.
The presidential inauguration is on Monday, January 20. The selection of the Sunday date is indicative of the Academy attempting to avoid any conflict with that event.
Already the most destructive fire in Los Angeles history, none of the historic wildfires across the county have been contained at publication.
The 2025 Academy Awards are still scheduled to occur on Sunday, March 2, and will air live on ABC and Hulu beginning at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET.
