Just when you think it’s a slow news day, along comes Tom Cruise to shake things up.
While this project has been gestating for a while, only today has Cruise sealed the deal that will have him star in “Mission: Impossible 4.” Paramount Pictures want to get this out of the gate quickly, and are eyeing a summer shoot with a 2011 Memorial Day weekend release date. And yes, despite rumors to the contrary, Ethan Hunt will be front and center this time around as well.
As we’ve previously reported, screenwriters Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec are already attached to write the script and as previously reported, J.J. Abrams, who directed “Mission: Impossible 3,” will be on board only in a producer capacity. Nothing in the way of directors, co-stars or even a plot have been announced but all that should get tied up in the coming weeks.
For Paramount, this means they have four major tentpole releases lined up for 2011 with this, “Thor” and “Captain America” arriving next summer as well as “The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn” at Christmas. We’re sure Viacom shareholders are quite happy.
