Got a Tip?

Mike White Returns With ‘Babe in the Woods,’ James Franco Joins ‘Eat, Pray, Love’

Whatever happened to Mike White — the actor/writer behind “School Of Rock,” “The Good Girl,” “Nacho Libre,” some episodes of “Freak & Geeks,” and the director of “Year of The Dog” — you ask? Well, he’s got a new action comedy called, “Babe in the Woods,” that’s just been picked up by Columbia Pictures. It’s about a a female freshman from the Midwest who arrives at Yale and becomes a target of the New Jersey mob. [Variety]

Josh Duhamel may join Katherine Heigl’s romantic comedy, “Life as We Know It” for Warner Bros. Greg Berlanti, known for directing TV shows “Eli Stone,” “Dirty Sexy Money” and the 2000 picture, “The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy,” will helm. [Variety]

Here’s the belated poster for “New York, I Love You” which hit the interwebs a few days ago. Like “Paris, Je T’aime,” the picture is an omnibus collection of 10 shorts directed by folks like Faith Akin, Brett Ratner, Allen Hughes, Joshua Marston, Natalie Portman, and Shunji Iwai and features an all-star cast of folks like, Bradley Cooper, Bilson, Orlando Bloom, Christina Ricci, Ethan Hawke, Anton Yelchin, James Caan, Olivia Thirlby, Blake Lively and many many more. The film is set for an October 16 limited release date, but curiously the new poster only says, “coming this fall.” Possible release date change? Scarlett Johannson’s short is obviously no longer part of the larger film.

James Franco has evidently joined the cast of Ryan Murphy’s “Eat, Pray, Love” which follows Julia Roberts’ protagonist as she embarks on a journey of self-discovery after trying to get pregnant and realizing she’s not living the life she wants (did we just miss that?) The film also stars Javier Bardem, Richard Jenkins and Billy Crudup. Apparently they’re shooting some of this in Brooklyn, just down the street from some of the homes of Playlist contribs. [ONTD]

Nora Ephron’s “Julie & Julia” starring a heavily lauded Meryl Streep will close the Rome Film Festival out-of-competition on Oct. 23. The culinary-themed film also stars Amy Adams and hits theaters in the U.S. this weekend. We missed our screening, but are hearing strong word of mouth for Streep. What else is new. Being dude-core is too obvious and too rampant in film geek circles, so we’ll be paying for our ticket this Friday [ed. congratulations] [Variety]
