Last week saw a flurry of rumors greet “Gravity” director Alfonso Cuarón. First came word that he was in talks to direct “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find To Them,” and was followed a few days later by more news that Warner Bros. was offering him “The Shining” prequel “Overlook Hotel.” But it would seem it’s all a bit premature.
Cuarón recently spoke with Spanish outlet EFE (via Digital Spy), where he denied any involvement in ‘Fantastic Beasts,’ and moreover indicated that after the extensive VFX work on “Gravity,” he’s looking to shift gears. “It was a very beautiful experience for me. I have a lot of love for that universe and I tremendously admire J.K. Rowling, but today, for the present, projects based around lots of visual effects don’t attract me,” the filmmaker explained.
“I’m coming out of a five-year process of doing visual effects and now I sort of want to clean my palate of that a little bit,” Cuarón added.
So then, what was the deal with all this news of movies landing on Cuarón’s desk? According to Variety‘s Justin Kroll, WB is offering the director a handful of projects, including “The Shining” sequel “Doctor Sleep.” (Add that one to the pile). Which one will he take? Guess we’ll just have to be patient.
