When you think of “May 2009,” what do you think of? “The beginning of this year’s blockbuster summer movie season” is what I think of, not “wanting to see a film that’s bound to leave me crying in the fetal position in the sticky aisles of the theater”. Therefore, I’m going to wait and see “Downloading Nancy” some other time… years from now after I’ve steeled my resolve and faith in humanity enough to throw it into my DVD player.
‘Nancy’ stars Maria Bello as the tortured central character that leaves her husband, played by Rufus Sewell, for another man (Jason Patric) after meeting and developing kindred desires for all things (well, at least some things) S&M-tinged and pyschosexual.
Don’t get me wrong, the film looks good, but like I said, this one will take some nerve to sit through, what with its pain-inflicting love-making and penchant or shards of glass on skin. And oh yeah, you know that song at the end – it’s Johnny Cash‘s arresting cover of Nine Inch Nail‘s “Hurt.”
If you’re feeling up for it, dare a friend to watch this AND Cash’s video for “Hurt” back-to-back without shedding a tear. ‘Nancy’ comes to theaters May of this year.
