It’s peaks and valleys when it comes to Marvel, and right now the comic studio is laying low until "Jessica Jones" drops on Netflix next month. But that means they have plenty to time to plot their next moves, and today brings a couple of surprise turns on both the big and small screen.
In rather surprising news, The Wrap reports that "Eagle Vs. Shark" and "What We Do In The Shadows" director Taika Waititi is in negotiations to helm "Thor: Ragnarok." It’s quite a different choice from Serious Director Kenneth Branagh for "Thor," and "Game Of Thrones" helmer Alan Taylor for "Thor: The Dark World," and a big leap for Waititi, who is mostly known for his distinctive, low-budget comedies. That said, "Thor" has also had a streak of humor throughout those films, so Waititi makes sense in that regard. And these days, making the leap from indies to blockbusters seems to be not at all uncommon.

Meanwhile, over at ABC, Deadline reports that the network is challenging DC‘s own brewing workplace comedy on NBC, with "Damage Control." Ben Karlin ("The Daily Show," "Colbert Report") is executive producing this one that focuses on the unsung men and women who have the thankless task of cleaning up after superheroes who leave destruction in their wake. Yes, it will be based on the Marvel comics and the idea is a pretty clever one.
