Earlier this week it was reported that Henry Cavill was currently in talks to make his triumphant, non-CGI, clean-shaven return to the DCEU as Superman, albeit in a limited capacity. But then our expectations were quickly lowered when it turned out that he was not in negotiations to star in “Man of Steel 2” but maybe a couple of cameos.
Well, it turns out that Cavill’s involvement is even more complicated, as there are reportedly no negotiations in place, and there’s no cameo in any of the written scripts for upcoming DC films.
According to THR’s Heat Vision, Cavill is “not in any negotiations for any cameo,” and there’s no cameo involving Superman written into the scripts of either “Black Adam,” “The Batman,” or even “The Flash,” which Heat Vision describes as dealing with both time travel and alternate universes, yet doesn’t seem to involve The Man of Steel. The news regarding Superman are taking a turn for the worst by the minute, even though Superman is meant to be the cornerstone of the DC universe, and “Man of Steel” remains one of the better DC films of the past decade.
That being said, THR notes that there is “interest in and ideas about and exploratory talks” regarding how Cavill could make an appearance in future movies. So he’s not completely out of the picture yet, just that there are no current concrete plans. It could be that the best course of action involves Superman making small appearances like in last year’s “Shazam!” which was originally going to feature Cavill himself as the Man of Steel, before talks got too complicated and we ended up with a headless torso.
In the meantime, we are at least not completely devoided of live-action Supermen, as the character is still scheduled to get his own series in The CW’s “Superman & Lois Lane” starring Tyler Hoechlin, reprising his role from “Supergirl.”
