The eagle eyed guys over at Twitch spotted a rather interesting article in Channel News Asia that is claiming Stephen Chow is beginning production on “Tai Chi” this summer in the United States and has landed Anne Hathaway and Jack Black to join him in the lead roles. Moreover, the film is going to be a (very loose, we imagine) remake of Bruce Lee’s “Way Of The Dragon.”
The actor and director has pretty much been keeping quiet since 2008’s “CJ7” and was for a brief moment attached to Michel Gondry and Seth Rogen’s “The Green Hornet” before pulling out of the production. Channel News Asia’s unnamed sources say that the actor is apparently “extremely nervous” about his English and as this is his first English-language film, he’s taken on a tutor to help get it right. Chow has reportedly been working on the script “Tai Chi” for nearly two years and that, coupled with his reservations about his spoken English is why we imagine he bailed on “The Green Hornet.”
While we would usually pour salt on this kind of rumor, the article seems to have a lot of details (ie. budget, production start date) that we don’t normally find it stuff that’s simply made up or interpreted from shady rumors. We’re guessing “official” word on this will be announced in the coming weeks.
