MUBI has released the trailer, key art, and streaming date for “The New Years” (Los Años Nuevos), a romantic drama series from Rodrigo Sorogoyen, the César Award–winning filmmaker behind “The Beasts.” The ten-part series will debut on MUBI on December 3 in North America, the U.K. and Ireland, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Turkey, and India. Two episodes will premiere on launch day, followed by one new episode weekly.
Starring Iria Del Río (“Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End”) and Francesco Carril (“Three Goodbyes”), “The New Years” unfolds across ten consecutive New Year’s Eves, chronicling a decade in the evolving relationship between Ana and Óscar. She’s drifting through her thirties—unhappy at work, restless in friendships—while he’s a doctor whose ordered life is upended when they meet and fall in love. Each episode captures a single night, revealing how love changes, endures, and fractures over time.

Created by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, Paula Fabra, and Sara Cano, the series premiered to acclaim at the 81st Venice Film Festival before its Spanish debut on Movistar Plus+, where critics hailed it as one of the year’s best new dramas. Described as a formally daring, emotionally candid portrait of modern relationships, “The New Years” expands Sorogoyen’s fascination with moral tension and human fragility—here refracted through the tender, reflective intimacy of time.
“The New Years” is produced by Domingo Corral and Fran Araújo of Movistar Plus+, along with Eduardo Villanueva, Nacho Lavilla, and Rodrigo Sorogoyen for Caballo Films.
Sorogoyen—whose work includes “May God Save Us,” “The Realm,” and “The Beasts”—is one of Spain’s most acclaimed contemporary filmmakers, known for exploring the fault lines between love, duty, and self-delusion. With six Goya Awards, an Academy Award nomination, and films that have premiered at Cannes, Venice, and Tokyo, he now brings his precise, atmospheric storytelling to long-form television for the first time.
“The New Years” premieres December 3 on MUBI.
