Are audiences ready for Guillermo del Toro‘s “Frankenstein“? In honor of Halloween, Netflix has a new trailer for del Toro’s latest, a passion project he has been waiting for his entire career to make. But is there an audience for a new “Frankenstein” adaptation, much less done with the director’s singular creative sensibility?
That’s what Netflix is finding out now, with the film in a brief theatrical run before it premieres on the streamer next week. The premise for “Frankenstein” should be familiar with everyone by this point. Oscar Isaac stars in this iteration as a brilliant scientific mind obsessed with grasping the vital creative energies of life itself. The result? A monstrous reanimated creature who may prove more human than the creator who rejects them.
Here’s an official synopsis for “Frankenstein,” courtesy of Netflix:
Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro adapts Mary Shelley’s classic tale of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.
Along with Isaac and Elordi, “Frankenstein” also stars Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz.
Del Toro adapts Mary Shelley‘s original novel for his latest directing effort, with J.
