New 'Black Adam' Trailer: Dwayne Johnson Is Power Born From Rage

It’s something of a miracle of perseverance that “Black Adam,” the upcoming DC Films/Warner Bros. movie, exists. Dwayne Johnson had seemingly been talking up the character since the late ’00s; after a while, it all felt like all talk, and most actors wouldn’t attach themselves to a project for this long. But Johnson kept the faith, and in their expansion, which certainly has hit many bumps and challenges along the way, DC Films has finally caught up to the point where they’ve introduced a character like Black Adam.

Moreover, it’s not just Black Adam, either. Johnson’s anti-hero/superhero movie features a whole team around him, and that’s the Justice Society of America. Now that team is the predecessor to the Justice League, which we already have in the DCEU and is generally set in the 1940s, but it’s still slightly unclear if “Black Adam” is going to be a period piece.

Regardless, there’s a JSA around this character who’s generally known as an adversary to Shazam! In the comics. Pierce Brosnan plays the masked magical character Doctor Fate, Aldis Hodge plays the alien policeman character Hawkman, Noah Centineo is Atom Smasher, who actually is more of a modern character in the comics, and Quintessa Swindell in Cyclone, also a contemporary character that maybe suggests that “Black Adam” will create a bridge from the past to the present day.

“Black Adam” is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, known for films like “The Shallows,” “Non-Stop,” and “Jungle Cruise” with Dwayne Johnson. The film also stars Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, James Cusati-Moyer, Bodhi Sabongui, Mo Amer, and Uli Latukefu, and so far, the villain of the film is unknown, but who knows, maybe this new Superbowl TV spot/trailer will shed some light on the identity of the antagonist.

“Black Adam” arrives in theaters on October 21, 2022. Watch the new spot below.
