Jason Momoa already had a hit series on Apple TV+ with “See“; will “Chief Of War” be another?

Created by Momoa and fellow Hawaiian Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, the upcoming nine-episode historical drama stars Momoa as famed warrior Ka’iana, who tried to unify the Hawaiian islands as Western colonists encroached on the indigenous population in the late 1800s.

Set amidst the scenic backdrop of the islands of Hawai‘i, the nine-episode series, based on true events, follows warrior Ka‘iana, portrayed by Momoa, as he tries to unify the islands before Western colonization in the late 18th century.
Told from an indigenous perspective, “Chief of War” is a passion project for creators Momoa and Thomas Pa‘a Sibbett, who share native Hawaiian heritage. The series features a predominantly Polynesian cast.
Along with Momoa, “Chief Of War” also stars Luciane Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, and Cliff Curtis. Kaina Makua, Moses Goods, Siua Ikale’o, Brandon Finn, and James Udom also star. Mainei Kinimaka, Te Kohe Tuhaka, and Benjamin Hoetjes round out the main cast.
Doug Jung serves as showrunner on “Chief of War.” Directors on the show include Justin Chon and Momoa, who directs the season finale. Jung, Chon, and Momoa also serve as executive producers along with Sibbett, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Tracey Cook, Brian Andrew Mendoza, Anders Engström, Jim Rowe, Molly Allen, Francis Lawrence, and Jim Van Patten. Hans Zimmer wrote the show’s theme music and co-produced the score with composer James Everingham.
