‘You People’ Teaser: Kenya Barris Looks At Modern Families With Jonah Hill, Eddie Murphy, Nia Long & More

A few years back, you might remember that Kenya Barris— creator of the ABC sitcom “Black-ish”— and actor Jonah Hill had written a project together, and it would be a family comedy that also co-starred Eddie Murphy. Well, the project, a Netflix film, is called “You People,” and the teaser has finally arrived.

The comedy essentially centers on a Jewish kid (Hill) and a Black girl (Lauren London), who are dating, and the hilarity that ensues when their very different families are put together at dinner and various events. David Duchovny and Julia Louis-Dreyfus star as Hill’s parents, and Nia Long and Eddie Murphy feature as London’s mom and dad. It’s quite the casting coup.

Here’s the official synopsis:

A new couple and their families find themselves examining modern love and family dynamics amidst clashing cultures, societal expectations, and generational differences in this comedy from Kenya Barris.

The star-studded also includes Sam Jay, Elliott Gould, Travis Bennett, Molly Gordon, Rhea Perlman, Deon Cole, Andrea Savage, Mike Epps, Emily Arlook, Alani La La Anthony, Bryan Greenberg, and the aforementioned Murphy, who doesn’t just turn up in anyone’s movies these days. Barris is the aforementioned creator of “Black-ish,” but he’s also found recent success on Netflix. He is also the creator and star of a comedy series, “BlackAF,” and is the producer of “We The People” and “Entergalactic.” Barris is also attached to direct a new remake of “The Wizard of Oz.”

“You People” will debut on Netflix January 27, 2023. Watch the new teaser below:
