Ben McKenzie Is James Gordon In 'Gotham' TV Series & Ms. Marvel Rumored For 'Avengers: Age Of Ultron'

Ms. Marvel

On the small screen and at the multiplex, the comic book continues to make its presence felt and this weekend brings a couple of updates for fans of both DC and Marvel.

First up, “Southland” and “The O.C.” star Ben McKenzie has landed the role of James Gordon in Fox‘s brewing “Gotham” (via EW). The series, which started out as a show that wouldn’t feature Batman, has developed into something that will follow the detective as he cleans up the titular city from baddies the Riddler, Catwoman and the Penguin. That being said, executives are saying the characters won’t be appearing in their costumes for the most part, and that this is all origin story stuff, but who puts Catwoman in a show without getting her geared up at some point? Anyway, a young Bruce Wayne will figure into the show too, tracking his rise to what we presume is Batman way down the line. Danny Cannon (“CSI,” “Nikita“) will direct the pilot penned by Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist,” “Rome“).

Meanwhile, Latino Review is reporting that Ms. Marvel is the last major casting puzzle piece for Joss Whedon‘s “Avengers: Age Of Ultron.” The character has long been expected to make her way to the big screen with Katee Sackhoff, Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson rumored at various points. It’s not yet known how they’ll integrate the character into the storyline—in the comics she’s had a few different iterations—but, if it does happen, we’re sure Whedon can figure it out.

Lastly, since we’re here, here’s the first TV spot for “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”
