With “La La Land” pretty much set to sweep the Oscars next month, it already promises to be a rather dull ceremony. And while many will be straight-up horrified if “Deadpool” is nominated in any of the major categories (and it has been building momentum in recent weeks thanks to honors from the WGA, PGA, and DGA), bringing the movie into the fold of prestige pictures might at least enliven the evening a bit.
Ryan Reynolds and 20th Century Fox are playing along, releasing a For Your Consideration video that’s…well, very “Deadpool”-y. Meanwhile, the entire team behind the movie (sans director Tim Miller) are moving toward the sequel, and three characters have been confirmed to return, and yes, they are quite obvious.

First up are Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, with screenwriter Rhett Reese telling Collider, ” I think we can say. Yeah, they’ll be in the sequel.”
Paul Wernick added, “Yeah, they’ll make at least an appearance.”
Meanwhile, in conversation with Nerdist, they add that Dopinder (the cab driver) will also return, saying, “I would say that the relationship between Dopinder and Deadpool was the most fun for me. I just love that relationship and love that character. And he’ll be in the sequel.”
Production on “Deadpool 2” is expected to begin soon, with the movie arriving in 2018.
