During a recent interview with MTV.com’s Josh Horowitz, Kirsten Dunst crushed every Trekkie on the planet when she exposed to the world that she does not know who captain of the Enterprise was (that ship from that really nerdy show “Star Trek”). When asked by Horowitz “who’s the captain of the Enterprise, as played by William Shatner?” Dunst quickly answered “Spock,” and then began laughing because she realized she was wrong. No big deal right? Well not according to Jeffrey Wells, who reacted as if she had just kicked his poodle to death.
“You can be a ‘girl’ all you want, but not knowing Captain Kirk is like not knowing who Jesus Christ, Barack Obama, Superman or Abraham Lincoln are. It’s not a nerd term, it’s a term known to the entirety of Western Civilization. The name ‘Captain Kirk’ is a primal, fundamental concept that anyone with a semblance of an education can identify.” Exactly, the same thing has been bothering us, when is Captain Kirk finally going to get his place in youth of America’s education as an essential figure in Western Civilization, next to Jesus and Abe Lincoln?
Wells may need to chill out and get a life, just because Dunst crushed his dreams of the two of them spending days watching old episodes of “Star Trek” together doesn’t really merit labeling her retarded. [ed. there’s certainly bigger pop culture injustices in the world, let alone real matters]
