Rom-coms usually end with the kiss. “Nobody Wants This” chose to begin there. Season 1 wrapped with Noah (Adam Brody) chasing Joanne (Kristen Bell) through a parking lot, sealing their fate with a swoon-worthy embrace—and, in the process, seemingly abandoning his role as a rabbi.

Series creator Erin Foster knows that’s not where real life ends, and she promises that Season 2 won’t play by Hollywood’s fantasy rules. Instead, the show will lean into what happens when the credits don’t roll, when romance collides with faith, consequence, and the ongoing work of building a life together.
“The crux of his story is figuring that out…because you make a big grand gesture and in a movie, you end on that note and you never hear from them again,” Foster explained to EW. “As fun as rom-coms are and what a great category they are of TV and film, they also do set the tone for 13-, 14-year-old women and men about what they should expect in adult relationships and what romance feels like, and that’s not an accurate characterization. The moment doesn’t end there. If you make a big sweeping decision, you have to deal with the consequences, so what does that look like?”
That tension—between Hollywood fantasy and the stubborn truths of adult relationships—promises to make Season 2 as biting and compelling as the first.

The series follows an unexpected relationship between an irascible agnostic woman and an unconventional American rabbi. Season 2 focuses on the couple’s struggles as they attempt to merge their lives and families and navigate new challenges in their interfaith relationship.
Synopsis:
An agnostic sex podcaster and a newly single rabbi fall in love, discovering if their relationship can survive their wildly different lives and meddling families. Season 2 will further explore this dynamic as well as the growing tension between Noah’s (Adam Brody) sister, Sasha (Timothy Simons), and Morgan (Justine Lupe), and the continued journey of Joanne (Kristen Bell).
“Nobody Wants This” Season 2 will arrive on Netflix on October 23.
