Today is the day, Lucasfilm and Disney have finally launched the first-look trailer for the next big “Star Wars” theatrical release, “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” heading to theaters in May of next year.
In case you’re somehow unaware, “The Mandalorian & Grogu” is a spin-off film from “The Mandalorian” series that ran for three seasons on Disney+. The series centered on a lone bounty hunter (Mando tasked with capturing Grogu, a mysterious and adorable creature. Instead, he forms a strong bond with him and strives to protect him from various threats, exploring his evolving purpose in a post-Empire galaxy.
Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder will continue as on-set doubles for The Mandalorian, but Pedro Pascal is expected to be back with Sigourney Weaver, and Amy Sedaris are confirmed to be part of the cast alongside the return of the live-action version of “Rebels” character Zeb Orrelios.
An official synopsis for the film, as provided by Disney:
The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu
It was produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce, while a fourth season of “The Mandalorian” is in the works alongside season two of “Ahsoka,” with “Star Wars: Starfighter” currently in production, with Shawn Levy directing Ryan Gosling.
