Trailers: 'Uncertainty,' 'The Messenger' 'Untitled'

The first trailer for “Uncertainty,” from Scott McGehee and David Siegel, directors of the excellent “Suture,” has debuted over at MSN. The film, which premiered at Toronto last year, follows a couple, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Lynn Collins, across two timelines, following a decision that they’ve made by flipping a coin. It looks interesting, even if the two plotlines, one a thriller and the other a drama, jar in the trailer, let alone in the film itself… It hits video on demand on November 11th, and theaters on November 13th.

Ben Foster has been receiving some serious accolades for his turn as a disturbed U.S. Army officer in the post-war Iraq drama directed by Oren Moverman, “The Messenger,” co-starring Woody Harrelson and Samantha Morton, and it’s really no surprise if you’ve followed his work carefully. We’re convinced it’s only a matter of time before this young actor (28-years-old) pulls in an Oscar nomination. He plays intense sociopaths extremely well and has already delivered riveting turns in, “Alpha Dog,” “3:10 to Yuma” and “30 Days of Night” (and in some cases was the best part of some of those mediocre movies). According to the synopsis, “partnered with fellow officer(Harrelson) to bear the bad news to the loved ones of fallen soldiers, Foster’s character faces the challenge of completing his mission while seeking to find comfort and healing back on the home front. When he finds himself drawn to Olivia (Samantha Morton), to whom he has just delivered the news of her husband’s death, Will’s emotional detachment begins to dissolve and the film reveals itself as a surprising, humorous, moving and very human portrait of grief, friendship and survival.
It looks quite good and we can’t wait to see. It hits theaters November 13, someone send us an invite already.

This is a little old, but the trailer for Jonathan Parker’s “(Untitled),” a satire set in the contemporary art world in New York, has gone online. The film follows a romance between a gallery owner (Marley Shelton) and a musician/artist (Adam Goldberg), and the characters surrounding them, played by the likes of Eion Bailey (“ER”), Lucy Punch (the upcoming “Dinner for Schmucks”) and Vinnie Jones, of all people. We’ve been looking forward to it all year, the trailer looks like fun, and it finally hits theaters this weekend on October 23.
