Got a Tip?

Poster Round-Up: ‘Cars 2,’ ‘Hangover 2’, ‘Apes,’ ‘Popper’s Penguins,’ ‘One Day,’ ‘Abduction’

Another week, another batch of new posters being unveiled for Summer Blockbuster hopefuls. First up, we have a new theatrical banner for “Cars 2.” The triptych image shows off the film’s international setting and is full of stunning detail which you can get a better look at over at Apple. The film features Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and Mater (Larry the Cable Guy, ugh) heading overseas to compete in the World Grand Prix to determine the world’s fastest car. We’re still not sold on the film itself but we’re crossing our fingers that it could be fun. If anyone can pull it off, Pixar can.

Next we have the U.K. poster for the Anne Hathaway romance “One Day.” The image is a fractured variation on the nice U.S. one-sheet, so no complaints here. The film centers a couple, Hathaway and co-star Jim Sturgess, who meet on the same day for twenty years after they share a one-night stand. Normally we might be wary of this kind of thing but the film is based on a beloved novel by David Nicholls and directed by Lone Scherfig (“An Education“) so consider us excited. The film will be out on July 8th in the U.S. and August 26th in the U.K.. [Hey U Guys]

We also have the latest for “The Hangover: Part II” sure to be hanging in college dorm rooms everywhere in the coming months. The film features the return of Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), and Alan (Zach Galifianakis) as they retrace the events of the first film in Thailand. We’re trying to remain optimistic for this one but haven’t yet been bowled over by the footage. Regardless of how the film turns out, it’ll still make a billion dollars and that’s fine by us. As long as Zach Galifianakis keeps getting to star in movies, we’ll take what we can get. The film will be crushing the competition on May 26th for Memorial Day weekend. [IMP Awards]

The recently released trailer for Taylor Lautner vehicle “Abduction” now also comes with an official poster. Hey Taylor, you’ve got a little something on your… no, the other side, yeah right, a little higher, oh never mind. The film, puzzlingly directed by John Singleton features Lautner as a kid who discovers he was actually a missing child and his whole life is a lie. Also: he might be a werewolf. You can find out on September 23rd when the film hits theaters. [Just Jared]

Also coming hot on the heels of its first trailer is this image for “Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes.” Looking at this image you take away three things: James Franco, apes, “Avatar.” If that doesn’t pack them into the theater, Fox isn’t sure what will. The film will be released on August 5th. [Apple]

Lastly we have a pair of posters for Jim Carrey‘s new animal comedy, “Mr. Popper’s Penguins.” Loosely based on the 1938 children’s book, hard to believe this was almost made by Noah Baumbach, starring Ben Stiller. Now it looks like the comedy is swinging wide and the posters are a pretty lazy attempt to appeal to the masses. The left image looks like a rush-job but the poster on the right is just shockingly amateur. Saul Bass it ain’t. The film will be released on June 17th. [Movieweb]
