Quick! Raise your hand if you’re dying for a sequel to “Snow White And The Huntsman.” C’mon don’t be shy….wait….nobody wants this? That’s what we thought. But hey, those international markets are more valuable than ever, and Universal did decently enough with the Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron starring movie (just under $400 million worldwide) that they might as well milk what they can out of this thing. Plans for this have been brewing for a while now, and while that once mooted 2015 date probably isn’t likely, potential directors are being rounded up.
Deadline reports that Frank Darabont, Gavin O’Connor and Andy Muschietti are among those on the shortlist for the job. The latter recently bounced from “The Mummy” remake at the studio over creative differences, so perhaps this would perhaps be a good way to patch things up. As for Darabont and O’Connor—both seasoned veterans with respectable movies and gigs behind them—this seems a bit beneath their paygrade, though in a climate where smart dramas aren’t being funded that often (or at all), this could help pay some bills.
Universal is now eyeing a 2016 release, with filming to begin once Chris Hemsworth is done his duty with “The Avengers: Age Of Ultron.” Could this be that mystery “event movie” Universal has already slotted for fall 2016? Perhaps…..
