Dude, it’s the MTV Movie Awards, what is there to get upset about? It’s about 1,000 rungs below the Oscars, so nothing to freak about if you don’t win. But in case you missed it, this is what Ice Cube had to say about his comedy “Ride Along” not winning the Best Duo Award at Sunday’s prestigious MTV Movie Awards.
“We was robbed,” Ice Cube told USA Today yesterday. “Shame on you MTV.” Who did win? Well, Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker won the best duo award for “Fast & Furious 6,” of course. Evidently, the rapper actor told USA Today that the award—voted on by fans mind you, not MTV—was a “sympathy” vote. “We had the best chemistry of everybody nominated, for us not to win was crazy,” he said of his role alongside Kevin Hart. “We were the best onscreen duo, period.”
As for Walker, Ice Cube said, “They should have gave it to him before he passed away.” Umm, OK, so you essentially throw the deceased Paul Walker under the bus for getting overlooked by the MTV Movie Awards?
Of course, Cube’s been receiving a lot of flak, so he hit Twitter to backpedal and sing a completely different tune. Here’s the several tweets edited together [though some tweets appear to be deleted, but are preserved here].
“Re: The MTV Awards. I wasn’t really mad we didn’t win,” he tweeted. “So I would never diss the actors who won. Not even Paul Walker. Seriously people! Don’t believe the hype. We should honour people before they die. That’s all. MTV Awards. Ice Cube is not a sore loser. I was born losing. This winning shit is what I gotta get use to. Last tweet and I’mma leave it alone. Remember this: A lie travels further then the truth. Damn the devil is busy. And Paul Walker fans don’t trip. I was a fan too.”
OK, then. So while the MTV Movie Awards did give a tribute to Paul Walker during the show, they evidently did not air a Vin Diesel-acceptance speech tribute that Diesel sent in advance from the set of “Fast & Furious 7” (in fact four awards were “awarded,” but not given out during the telecast). Not cool, MTV. Outraged? Watch the speech in its entirety below.
