Desire can be a dangerous thing, and when mixed with feelings that your life is stuck in a rut, it can explode into something unexpectedly potent. It’s this idea that rides at the core of “Breathe In,” the new drama from “Like Crazy” writer/director Drake Doremus. The movie is getting ready to roll into U.K. cinemas and a clip has arrived offering a peek at the simmering relationship between music teacher and married man Keith (Guy Pearce) and exchange student Sophie (Felicity Jones).
When Sophie comes to live at Keith’s home, the former rock star sees a bright spark that pulls him out of the suburban life and stagnant marriage (to Amy Ryan) that he’s settled into. But of course, this leads everyone down an unforgettably thorny path. Catching it at Sundance earlier this year, we called it a “mature, but complicated exploration of love and its dark side.” So it’s one to keep your eye when it makes it way to U.S. theatres later this year.
Until then, those of you in the U.K. can catch it in cinemas and on VOD starting Friday, July 19th.
