You’d be forgiven for thinking next month’s "Captain America: Civil War" is an Avengers flick. But it speaks to just how well crafted the Marvel universe has become that all the interconnectivity mostly feels like an organic, logical extension of the each film’s storyline, rather than an attempt to cram in characters just for the sake of it. And as far as Chris Evans is concerned, Marvel can’t be beat.
“They’ve got a monopoly on it, they’re doing it and no one else can try and copy it,” he recently said at a press conference (via Variety). Even Kevin Feige himself seemed astonished at the star power he’s assembled over the years.
“I’ve said it before, and it’s only getting more and more accurate as cast members keep joining, but there has never been an ensemble like this in cinematic history. We had to break up into two panels today, because everyone is a headline,” he said.
However, there was a moment where Evans was unsure he wanted to join the Marvel-verse at all, explaining on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" that the massive commitment was not an attractive proposition initially. "At first, it was some nine-picture contract.…Doing movies one at a time, if all of a sudden you decide you don’t want to do them anymore, you’re afforded the opportunity to take a step back and recalibrate," the actor said. "When you have a giant contract, all of a sudden you’re not responding well? Too bad. You gotta suit up again. That was scary."
