Tina Fey & Steve Carell's Reunion On 'Mail Order Groom' Will Have To Keep Waiting

nullWhen Tina Fey and Steve Carell teamed up for the 2010 box-office hit “Date Night,” it seemed like a no-brainer to get the two stars back together again and indeed, Warner Bros. almost immediately locked down the duo for “Mail Order Groom.” It’s been a twisty three years since and though it seemed closer to happening this year, the comedy has hit another road bump.

Deadline is reporting that the studio has pushed back the comedy yet again, this time to next year, citing “scheduling conflicts with other film commitments Fey and Carell have.” In case you need a refresher on the film, Fey would play a lonely woman who orders a mail-order groom from Eastern Europe and gets more than she bargained for when Carell, the titular character, shows up. At the time, his character was described as Borat-esque, but we’re guessing that’s been changed slightly (we hope) since then.

This long-delayed project has been perennially plagued with scheduling difficulties but with the two comedic stars finally free of their commitments to their respective NBC comedies — “30 Rock” and “The Office” — it seemed like the project was finally destined to happen. But of course, with their schedules finally wide open, the two actors seemed to attach themselves to a myriad of projects. This year alone Fey has joined “The Muppets…Again!,” “The Nest” and “This Is Where I Leave You” and Carell is not far behind with the long-brewing adaptation of “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” and the untitled FBI wedding comedy he’s got set up at Universal.

Will 2014 finally be the year for “Mail Order Groom”? Only time (and their schedules) will tell. In the meantime, watch “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone” and “Admission” back to back to get your Carell and Fey fix.
