Got a Tip?

Ethan Hawke Says They’re Writing The Script, Not Shooting The ‘Before Sunrise’/ ‘Before Sunset’ Follow-Up In Greece

nullWell, there's good news and bad news. We'll give you the latter first — despite what looked like a lot of evidence to suggest that the much talked about follow-up to Richard Linklater's "Before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset" was now filming in Greece…it's not. However, it is being actively worked on, and while both Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy were spotted around Greece, it seems they are still putting ideas to paper.

MTV recently chatted with Hawke, who called them from the island country to talk about his upcoming horror flick "Sinister." But of course, the site couldn't let him off the line without asking just what he was doing over there and if the rumors that cameras were already rolling on the Linklater movie were true. "We're here writing a third installment to 'Before Sunrise,' " Hawke said. "If it works out, we'll film it, and if it doesn't, we won't. It's not really worth talking about. I'm just here developing."

This is certainly a more cautionary statement that the actor has taken in the past, but it at least suggests that when Delpy told us it wouldn't lens until "sometime in the next year, year and a half," that seemed to be the case. But what does seem apparent, is that the movie has some kind of backing from a Greek production company Faliro House (at least accord to various reports out of the country), and thus it's probably not a coincidence that Hawke and Delpy are getting a lay of the land as they put pen to paper.

"It's super good," Hawke said about the progress thus far. "We're just here workshopping it and developing it, trying to create a great script."

And it will certainly have to be great — or near to it — to match the magic of the previous two films, which were effortlessly charming and romantic. So in short, "Before Midnight" (as some are calling it) isn't quite shooting, but it is definitely moving forward. And hopefully, we'll catch up with Celine and Jesse once again, very soon.
