Watch: New Trailer For ‘Act Of Killing’ Followup ‘The Look Of Silence,’ Plus 18-Min Talk With Director Joshua Oppenheimer

The Look of Silence by Joshua OppenheimerWith an Oscar nomination and awards and honors from film festivals and critics around the world, Joshua Oppenheimer‘s "Act Of Killing" announced the director as a serious new voice in documentary filmmaking. And he quickly started work on his next movie, "The Look Of Silence," a sequel of sorts to ‘Killing’ which has culled similar acclaim. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where it was awarded both the FIPRESCI prize and the Grand Jury prize. Now a new trailer for the film is here.

Our critic on the Lido called the film "spellbinding," with a story centering on Adi, who digs into the horror of his family’s history and the loss they suffered during the Indonesian military coup of the 1960s. It’s a bracing story that needs context and encourages conversation. And so after you watch the trailer below, be sure to check out this eighteen minute interview with Oppenheimer on CBC‘s "Q With Jian Ghomeshi" as he discusses his documentary in further detail.

"The Look Of Silence" opens in 2015, but we’d put down money on an Oscar qualifying run.
