With a release date of July 5th and it being a summer comedy and all, we’re getting a lot of fun stuff from “The Way, Way Back.” We already have a few photos, the soundtrack and our review from Sundance. Now, there are five TV spots, a 1-minute trailer and a clip from the indie coming-of-age tale for your perusal.
Written and directed by two of the three screenwriters behind “The Descendants,” Groundlings alums Nat Faxon and Jim Rash (aka Ben from Fox’s cancelled “Ben and Kate” and the Dean on “Community”), “The Way, Way Back” is about a teenager (Liam James) surviving a summer at the beach with his mom (Toni Collette) and mom’s boyfriend (Steve Carell) by getting a job at a water park. The rest of the stellar cast includes Faxon, Rash, Sam Rockwell, Amanda Peet, Rob Corddry, Allison Janney, Maya Rudolph and AnnaSophia Robb.
The clip and spots showcase a tipsy neighbor (Janney), a somewhat annoying pseudo-father figure (Carell), a fun albeit skeezy trick for water park employees, and a wacky couple in the form of Corddry and Peet. Check out all five below and more, with a bunch of new pics too.
