Charlie Cox Says Ben Affleck "Did A Wonderful Job As Daredevil," Showrunner Left Series Due To Previous Commitments

Daredevil, Cox, AffleckA brief update on “Daredevil,” which we know has been renewed for a second season. Why did series showrunner Steven DeKnight depart after only one season? According to the exec-producer and co-creator of the show, he had prior engagements. “Unfortunately I won’t be returning to #Daredevil due to a previous commitment in the feature world. More to come on that in the future,” he wrote on Twitter recently.

Where does season two go? It’s unclear at the moment, but star Charlie Cox, who’s been doing the press rounds in the U.K., clearly knows what he’d like to see and what other characters he’d like to see Matt Murdock and Dardevil take on.

“I’d like to see Punisher maybe show up, a little bit of Elektra maybe. I wouldn’t mind Black Widow making an appearance, and you can’t think about Daredevil for too long without thinking of Bullseye. I don’t know when or if or how that would happen, but it’d be cool if it did," Cox told Empire (below). He did, however, preface that statement by admitting, “I have no idea who is going to turn up” (interesting enough, before he left, DeKnight said he’d love the Punisher to have his own series).

Cox revealed that season two will shoot in the second half of 2015, and while he prefaced again that he doesn’t know this for a fact, he guessed, “they’ll probably do ‘Iron Fist‘ or ‘Luke Cage‘ at the same time, followed by the other one [of the two] in the first half of 2016 and then maybe ‘Defenders‘ in the second half of 2016 or the beginning of 2017.”

Well, there’s your rough timeline folks. Will “Daredevil” appear in the “Avengers: Infinity War” films as some dubious rumors suggest? In a HeyUGuys interview (below), Cox says he doesn’t know, but essentially says Marvel has him obligated and signed up for several appearances as the character and ultimately it will be up to them (don’t bank on it though, ‘Infinity War’ will be crowded as it is). In the same interview, Cox spoke about Ben Affleck’s appearance as the man without fear.

“I happen to think Ben Affleck did a wonderful job as Daredevil,” Cox said. “The difficulty that the film had, if I may so, was… that when you get to know the comic books, you realize that Daredevil needs to exist in a slightly more adult, dark, gritty, lonely place. He’s different from other super heroes and he operates in his own way.”
