Jesse Eisenberg To Reteam With Aaron Sorkin For 'The Newsroom,' Kinda; First Footage From Heist-Actioner 'Now You See Me'

Look, we’ll be the first to admit that the headline here is all types of deceptive (hence the “kinda”) but here we go: yes, Jesse Eisenberg is set to re-team with his ‘Social Network‘ scribe Aaron Sorkin on his new HBO series “The Newsroom” but it’s not exactly what you’re thinking. The actor will appear in what’s being described as a “small voiceover role” although, as mundane as that may sound, the part will noted to be “easily recognized as a key ‘newsmaker.'”

Eisenberg joins a whole host of names on board Sorkin’s long-awaited return to television which includes Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Alison Pill, John Gallagher Jr., Olivia Munn, Dev Patel, Thomas Sadoski and Sam Waterston for the writer’s signature style behind-the-scenes story of a ficticious cable network news show. Should we expect more Sorkin regulars to appear throughout the series (Bradley Whitford, we’re looking at you) but? Let’s hope so. The pilot is set to premiere on June 24th.

Another piece of news on the Eisenberg-front comes from his upcoming Louis Letterier heist-actioner “Now You See Me,” which co-stars big names such as Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Isla Fisher, Melanie Laurent, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Michael Caine and Common. We now have our first on-set footage from the pic which follows the Robin Hood-esque tale of of a team of the world’s greatest illusionists (Eisenber, Fisher, Harrelson & Franco), who pull off a series of daring bank heists during their performances and shower the profits onto their audiences.

Ruffalo and Laurent play law-enforcement officers on the quartet’s tail with Batman series co-stars Freeman and Caine respectively playing a retired magician and wealthy benefactor, presumably behind the protagonists’ ploy. The film will hit theaters on January 18th next year with a score by The Chemical Brothers. [EW/ET]
