Watch: Matt Damon Goes To The Red Planet In 2 New Trailers For Ridley Scott's 'The Martian'

The MartianSometimes the reasons an actor picks a movie are pretty simple and straightforward. “Ridley [Scott] said, ‘This script is great.’ I said, ‘Yeah it is.’ He goes, ‘Why the f— aren’t we doing this?’ That was it. I said, ‘Okay!’ ” Matt Damon told EW about his decision. And after 72 days of shooting last fall, the movie is now in the can, ready for a World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and two new trailers for the movie are here.

Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Michael Peña, Kate Mara, Sean Bean, Sebastian Stan, Aksel Hennie, Donald Glover, Mackenzie Davis, and Chiwetel Ejiofor co-star in the movie based on the best-selling book about a mission to Mars that goes wrong when an astronaut is left behind, and must fight to live as a rescue mission is launched from Earth. Here’s the official synopsis:

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return.

"The Martian" opens on October 2nd. Watch below. The UK version starts with a bit of a heart-pumping teaser that’s not tagged on the domestic version.
