Watch: Oscar Isaac Balances Politics And Justice In New Trailer For David Simon’s ‘Show Me A Hero’

Show Me a HeroAs David Simon showed with "The Wire" across five seasons, he can mix complex drama, politics, social themes, and so much more into excellent, must-see viewing. And while you’ll have to wait until next week for our full review, he does it again with "Show Me A Hero," his brand new miniseries for HBO.

Oscar Isaac leads the true story drama as Nick Wasicsko, the mayor of Yonkers, who is tasked with implementing legally mandated low income housing, against the protests of a very vocal, and affluent, citizenry. Simon, together with "Crash" director Paul Haggis, do terrific work, weaving a fascinating tapestry of rich characters in a story that views all the angles. Here’s the official synopsis:

In an America generations removed from the greatest civil rights struggles of the 1960s, the young mayor of a mid-sized American city is faced with a federal court order that says he must build a small number of low-income housing units in the white neighborhoods of his town. His attempt to do so tears the entire city apart, paralyzes the municipal government and, ultimately, destroys the mayor and his political future.

Featuring a great ensemble including Catherine Keener, Winona Ryder, Jon Bernthal, Alfred Molina, Bob Balaban, and more, "Show Me A Hero" debuts on Sunday, August 16th at 9 PM. Watch below.
